its not letting me open it

then your pc trash ass fuck

(+2)

hey! Could you let us know which OS you are using?

(+5)

Cute! Will there be any customization options (decor, colors etc) in the future? :)

(+1)

Maybe, but we're still trying to work out how to add them so the app doesn't become a distraction ^^

oh, that actually makes a lot of sense! I hadn't thought abt it that way. Thank you <3

(+3)

It wouldn't let me open the file :( I kept getting the "You do not have permission to open this application" even after I went through permissions on the app info

Same ;-;

Which OS are the two of you using? :)

This happened to me too. Mines Big Sur 11.3.1

Hey IsabelaNova, thebeigepandaa and jennyjoy

We finally spent some time trying to figure out the issue. Apparently Mac doesn't let you execute files if you're not on an admin account.

We uploaded a second version of Virtual Cottage that has the permissions tweaked in the .app file. However this will get you another error, because we aren't certified Apple developers.

But by continouisly holding the ctrl key and clicking open on the apps menu, you can force the app to open. Detailed instuctions can be found in the description at the top of this page. Unfortunately there is no clean workaround for this.

The only other option would be to get the app via steam, since steam takes care of the permissions nonsense.

love this so far! would love to see if spotify could be linked for personal music :-)

When I start the game it automatically comes up on my main screen, and won't let me move it to my secondary screen. There is no top task bar to move it from. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

everytime i launch the steam version, it immediately crash for no reason, when i first installed it doing fine for hours and next day it crashed. idk which one is the crash log but here the ss

it seems there is something wrong with your save file. Could you try deleting the whole Virtual Cottage Folder from your steam apps and downloading it again? Sorry for the inconvenience :)

(+1)

Will there be any updates to the files here, or should i just use the steam version? ( Love the aplication <3 )

(+1)

Yes but Updates are a bit slower here, since we usually try to fix all minor bugs after we release for steam. However we always try to have a running version on here for ppl who don't want to use steam

(+1)

Is there a way to add custom music?

(+3)

Hi! I'm absolutely loving virtual cottage. It makes for a great way to focus on a task.

I have one minor issue: When I work, I need music that has no lyrics or talking in it. The song Signals ends with a very disruptive quote from something or other, and it takes me out of my focus every time it plays. Could this be switched out? Or at least could users be given an option to turn certain songs on and off? That'd be great. Thanks!

That Option will come in a future update. As for now in the 1.5.4 Version the song signals is removed for now. itch.io Updates always lag behind steam updates :)

check it out!

Awesome app 5/5!

Hi! I love this app! So far it's the best focusing app I have ever found! Thank you!

The dimensions of the app happened to be a little off on my laptop (my resolution is 1920 x 1080). I manually change it, but every time I open the app I have to change it again. I have no idea if there is any way for me to sort of "save" the fixed resolution of the app or not.

Have a good day!

you can change that? You can set --resolution on the command line, but then, it's still very small, centered in the middle of the screen.

When I try and run the Mac version, I get a message saying "The application “Virtual Cottage” can’t be opened.".

I'm running Catalina 10.15.7, not the most up to date, but not super old either.

(+1)(-1)

if you haven't, download steam, the app will work once you do that.

Sorry for the late reply! Let us know if you still have this problem with the most recent version

Hi! I'm having the exact same problem here. I'm running Catalina 10.15.14

Hey! We are working on a fix :) It could be that the apps permissions aren't set correctly. So If you're not the admin you can't open the executable. This should be fixed in the 1.5.4 Update

I'm still having the same issue even with the update :(

Hey meccaroon and Melange Co.

Any chance of the project going open source? I know the scope itself is quite small, but still, I want to check it out.

Oh and some really small fixes:

· In the itch.io page, the screenshots have the bar at the top, with ShareX you can screenshot the window without that and many more things.

· When the music is not activated, make the text fade away by changing it's color alpha on the font color settings.

Probably not for a while, since this was the first code I ever wrote in Godot :') and its a mess.

Maybe once the project is further in it's development and I feel more confident about what I'm doing

I just tried this. The scene is motivational. The evolving ambience is mesmerizing. I set the timer and went to work on a project. The experience was amazing until the sound went off. Could I get a less alarming tone like a gong? Thanks.

Haha sorry about that! We want to add different options for the end tone in the future, a gong is a nice idea!

also i love the music

i love this so much! it would be cool if u added a to do list or notes feature too.. :PPP<333

We were planning a little list which allows you to write doen 3-5 tasks and cross them off. We just need to rework the UI before this :)

I have some genuine bad focus, and the horrible tomato layouts online only make me want to do things less, so this a great option! Thanks for making it!

yay <3 thanks so much for your comment

Amazing program! I love it so much. The visuals, UI design, music selection, atmospheric sounds, and functionality of it all is absolutely gorgeous. Also the fact that this is your first project with Godot? Astonishing. Can't wait to check out more of your work ^w^!

Hope you're having a lovely day <3

(+1)

Thanks so much! My partner and me were using Clickteam Fusion before, but the jump from Visual Scripting to using coding in godot was difficult.
That's why I mainly did a project that utilized the ui components like buttons and such :) But it's getting more complex with every update so let's see how far I can take this.

can you customize your character?

(+1)

So cool! thanks

(+2)

This's so amazing! Now i can do my work sessions without any problems with time.

For some reason it keeps saying it's damaged for Mac? I've tried >show package contents and >Contents/MacOs as another comment suggested, but it's still showing up as damaged.

Mac is unfortunately always our problem child >.<. We just uploaded a new version on here, let us know if this works. If it doesn't the game is also on steam for free with a working Mac version.

(+1)

Looks awesome!

Wow! I love this! This is awesome and the music is mesmerizing.

Adorable, sweet and relaxing. Congratulations, immediately put in the collection and we will use it while we develop our Hexia.

It's a really nice concept, and I'm so happy it has a Mac version now! Unfortunately though, I can't run it. It says the app is damaged :c

What :0 oh no. The game is also on steam for mac, could you check if it works there?
So far we've had no report of the mac version not working. We'll investigate :)

One user here on itch wrote "try moving the app to a different folder and then running it" maybe that will help you?
It works on our Mac so we're a bit lost on where to troubleshoot :D

Hi there! Actually, today I managed to get the itch.io version working on Mac!
If you run the executable file in >show package contents and then Contents/MacOS (just for the first time) then it will work forever :)

Thanks for this project, it's working well on fedora.

It's a really nice concept, I want to try to make one with my own environment now !

It does not work for Mac

It says for me that the app is damaged or its just me

Hi!

We got it running on our MAC. Since we only have one test device, it's hard for us to verify.

try moving the app to a different folder and then running it

Sweet!

I can confirm that it works on Ubuntu.

Will it work on 32 bit?

(+1)

We don't have any way to test that at the moment :0

oh

Amo esto y el hecho que lo hayas programado con Godot me sorprende mas, es un maravilloso trabajo. Es como si hubieran juntando lo que me gusta y lo que necesito. ¡Gracias!

just downloaded the linux version, have to chmod +x for it to be executable (idk if this is common practice for linux releases? didn't see anyone else mentioning this in the comments) but its not too much of a hassle anyway :)

its very cute n chill, hopefully this will help my brain focus on what it needs! time to get working!

(+1)

chmod +x is necessary any time Linux programs are distributed in .zip files.  Zip doesn't save any of the system flags that Linux uses to determine if something's a usable program, so the system assumes it's not unless it tell you.

This could be fixed if the program were re-compressed into a .tar.gz archive instead of a zip archive, but it'd have to be done on a Linux [or Mac I guess?] computer because Windows doesn't track those tags either (so they would still not exist).  It's not really a big deal, but it might be good if DU&I mentioned it in the readme.

Sorry for long response you didn't really ask for, I just thought this might be useful information for someone.

ooh thanks for the info! (probably learned about this in school but has completely forgotten about it haha, appreciate this lil refresher! :> )

When I package up games, I've had good luck zipping a game with the Windows built-in folder right-click "Send To => Compressed (zipped) Folder". It marks everything in the folder as executable when Linux and Mac users unzip it. Third-party archivers like WinZip or 7-Zip usually don't mark files as executable, and require the permissions fix with chmod u+x.

Oh! Thanks. We'll try that for Linux then :D

thanks for the info! we'll add that to the description!

absolutely wonderful. thank you!

Glad you like it! :)

Can you say what game engine did you use?

Hi! It was created with the Godot Engine.

(+2)

This is great, but the music quality sounds... distorted? Like it's underwater? Is that supposed to be how it is?

It doesn't sound like it's distorted for me, maybe it's just the headphones you're using

Ok! Thanks. :)

This helps me so much with my homework and projects, its like magic. Normally videos from YT of Lo - Fi doesn't make me focus on my homework, but this app its different.

The awesome tool i love the underlying idea, some things that could be added maybe:

1 History log of activities for example

(5:30pm) programming :30 min,

(6:00pm) reading 1 hr,

(7:00pm) drawing 1 hr etc

2 An activity timer that starts from 0 sec and stops when you stop it. In some cases, you don’t know how long something will take.

For example, you could start an activity “Programming” and stop it whenever, which for example could be at 53 min or any other time.

3 Furthermore instead of looking for the songs themselves, you could try to integrate Soundcloud API and look for songs there. It’ll be alright as long as you follow the Soundcloud API Terms of Use, although i could imagine it might be a bit hard in Godot but should be pretty doable.
